Michele Williams QC has been appointed as the new Chair of the Post Sentence Authority

Ms Williams brings significant experience as a criminal barrister to the Post Sentence Authority. She was appointed as one of Victoria’s first female Crown prosecutors in 2002, and appointed as a Queen’s Counsel in 2005.

Ms Williams was responsible for prosecuting some of the state’s most serious sexual and violent offenders, and in 2006 she became the First Head of the Specialist Sex Offence Unit in the Office of Public Prosecutions. She retired as one of the most experienced Senior Crown Prosecutors in November 2016.

Ms Williams’ appointment fills the vacancy created by the departure of Judge Ian Gray, who commenced as the inaugural Chair of the Post Sentence Authority in February 2018.

The Post Sentence Authority thanks Judge Gray for his commitment and leadership, and it welcomes Ms Williams to this important position. Ms Williams’ experience and leadership will be of significant benefit to the Post Sentence Authority, as it continues to support community protection through monitoring serious offenders who are on post sentence orders.
